Sunil Lamsal, the father of the late Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal, has submitted a formal request to Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, seeking serious diplomatic attention after the accused in his daughter’s suspicious death was released on bail in India.
Prakriti was a student at KIIT (Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology) in Odisha, India. She was found dead in her hostel room on February 16, 2025, under unclear circumstances. An Indian student, Adwik Srivastava, was arrested in connection with her death. However, the Odisha High Court later granted him bail on May 16 with a bond of one lakh Indian rupees.
Sunil Lamsal says he only recently learned that the accused had already been released. Concerned that justice may not be served, he met with the foreign minister on June 10 (Jestha 28) to submit a written plea asking for diplomatic support in the case.
He fears that his daughter may not get justice if diplomatic pressure is not applied and urges the Nepali government to intervene through legal and diplomatic channels.
