Mandandeupur Municipality in Kavrepalanchok has closed four local factories because they did not pay their taxes. The municipality had sent several notices asking them to clear their dues, but the factories ignored them.
A team led by Mayor Tok Bahadur Waiba, along with local representatives and business members, sealed the factories. Among them were three brick factories and one crusher plant.
One of the sealed factories, Sant Washing and Crushing Industry in Rayobari (Ward 9), had not paid around Rs. 4.58 million in taxes since 2021.
Two other brick factories — Kalidevi and Chandeni-Nagarkot — in Ward 6 were also shut. Kalidevi owed Rs. 6.18 million, while Chandeni-Nagarkot was closed because it was not even registered with the municipality.
Another, Dakshinkali Brick Industry in Ward 7, was sealed for not paying Rs. 4.58 million in taxes.
Mayor Waiba said that the municipality tried to solve the issue by sending reminders many times, but had to take action when the industries kept ignoring the rules.
