Government Plans 1,600 New Telecom Sites to Expand Rural Connectivity sites across the country to improve the quality and reach of telecommunications services, particularly in rural and remote areas.

Responding to lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, the minister acknowledged frequent complaints about poor telecom and internet services in remote regions and said the government is taking the issue seriously.

He said Nepal Telecom is preparing to invest more than Rs 6 billion in the next fiscal year to expand and upgrade services. Currently, 4,829 telecom sites are operating nationwide, while studies have identified the need for 1,443 additional sites to improve coverage and service quality.

Timilsina said the procurement process is being advanced for nearly 1,600 new sites to ensure future demand is met. He added that although importing telecom equipment may take time, the ministry is coordinating closely with service providers to complete the work within the planned timeframe.

The minister also stressed that the government remains committed to ensuring citizens have access to reliable and quality communication services throughout the country.
