Ashika Tamang, a lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has urged the government to clarify recent developments in the Susta border area and strengthen Nepal’s border security.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Monday, Tamang said the long-standing Susta dispute remains unresolved, with changes in the course of the Gandaki River contributing to territorial disputes in the area.
She also raised concerns over reports of activities by India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and alleged intimidation of local residents, calling on the government to inform Parliament about the facts of the incident, actions taken so far, and its future strategy.
Tamang noted that border issues in areas such as Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura are closely linked to Nepal’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. She stressed that protecting national borders is essential to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.
The RSP lawmaker urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation into all border-related issues and pursue diplomatic solutions. If necessary, she suggested that Nepal and India consider installing border fencing or walls through mutual agreement to strengthen border management.
