Harka Sampang Rai, chairperson of the Shram Sanskriti Party, has expressed serious concern over an incident in Kailali in which a tempo (three-wheeler) was reportedly pushed off a cliff, and has called on the government to take action against those responsible and provide compensation to the victim.
Speaking during Monday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Sampang drew attention to a video circulating on social media that shows a poor tempo driver’s vehicle being rolled off a cliff in the presence of forest officials. He said the incident was deeply disturbing.
He urged the Home Minister to ensure an impartial investigation into the case, take legal action against those involved, and provide appropriate compensation to the affected driver.
Sampang also referred to another video showing stones being thrown at the roof of a house, expressing concern over what he described as increasingly troubling behaviour by law enforcement personnel.
He said citizens should feel safe and protected when they see police officers, but recent incidents have instead created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.
“A video showed a poor tempo driver’s vehicle being pushed off a cliff in the presence of forest police. We are deeply saddened by that scene. I would like to draw the Home Minister’s attention to this matter. Those responsible should be punished and compensation should be provided. We also saw footage of stones being thrown at the roof of a house. It is surprising to see such unruly behaviour from police these days. People should feel peace and security when they see police officers. The environment of fear and terror associated with seeing the police must be corrected immediately,” he said.
The video in question was made public after an incident on Jestha 29, when employees of the Divisional Forest Office in Kailali were carrying out an anti-encroachment operation in Ward No. 4 of Godawari Municipality and allegedly pushed a woman’s tempo off a cliff.
