The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has said that recent news and social media posts about load shedding coming back are not true. They said people misunderstood an internal notice from one of their offices.

In a statement released on Sunday, the NEA explained that the notice from the Chanauli Distribution Centre was only for internal use and was meant to manage electricity for just one day. It was not a plan for regular power cuts across the country.

"The public got confused because some media and social media pages called it a ‘load shedding schedule’, which is not true,” the NEA said.

They explained that due to less rainfall than usual this monsoon, farmers are using more electricity for irrigation. This has put extra pressure on the power system. To manage this, NEA had to temporarily cut power in some areas to switch transformers and power lines. This is a normal technical process.

"This was only a short power break for maintenance, not the return of load shedding,” the NEA added.

They also said the issue in the Chanauli area is only technical and will be fixed in two to three days.

NEA has asked people and the media not to spread false information and to follow only official sources for correct updates.
