China has started building a Bailey bridge at the Rasuwagadhi border point between Nepal and China. This new bridge is being constructed in place of the Miteri Bridge, which was washed away by floods last month.
According to Arjun Paudel, Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, the bridge construction is expected to help restore the road connection between the two countries. The flood on Asar 24 (July 8) had damaged the old bridge over the Lhendey River.
The new Bailey bridge is being built two meters east of the original location, carefully avoiding damage to any historical structures. The Chinese side has already brought the required equipment to Rasuwagadhi.
Paudel added that as cross-border movement and trade have been halted, the Chinese government is constructing this bridge as a first step. The construction is planned to be completed by Bhadra 30 (September 15).
