The government has strongly condemned the anarchic and violent activities carried out during the pro-royalist forces’ protest in Tinkune and surrounding areas on March 28.

Spokesperson for the government and Minister for Information and Communications Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, said those forces attacked private, public and government properties, targeted media houses and even set a building on fire when a person was inside, leading to his death.

Minister Gurung was referring to the tragic death of Suresh Rajak, a journalist trapped inside a burning building while covering the protest that had become the target of a frenzied mob.

Furthermore, he accused the pro-royalist forces of putting the security of the nearby international airport in jeopardy through their violent and anarchic activities.

On behalf of the government, Minister Gurung extended condolences to the bereaved families of journalist Rajak and Sabin Maharjan, a 29-year-old transport worker from Kirtipur-4, who were killed in the course of the protest.

Minister Gurung informed that the government has given the Ministry of Health and Population the responsibility of arranging free treatment for those injured in the protest.

The government has also directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to conduct a free and fair probe into the incidents, take action against the guilty and adopt measures to make sure that such incidents do not occur again, he said. Minister Gurung appealed the public to desist from violent and anarchic activities.
