On the orders of the government, a 22-member Nepali Army medical team has departed for quake-hit Myanmar on April 2 with necessary medicine and equipment.
The team consisting of paramedics, physicians, surgeons and nurses will serve in Myanmar for a week, providing treatment to those injured in the quake for about a week, the army said.
On March 28, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake left Mandalay and Sagaing cities in central Myanmar in ruins, with more than 2,700 people confirmed dead as of Tuesday.
In the wake of the quake, United Nations agencies have appealed for humanitarian assistance.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said it is “responding at its highest level of emergency activation”, adding that it needs $8 million to “deliver life-saving trauma care, prevent disease outbreaks and restore essential health services over the next 30 days”.
UNICEF has also called for “urgent funding to scale up the delivery of life-saving support to children and families affected by the earthquake, including clean water, medical care, protection, psychosocial support, and emergency education”.
