Due to low visibility resulting from bad weather, regular flight operations got affected at the Tribhuvan International Airport and the domestic terminal.
What is the update now?
nepalverifiednews.com talked with Rinji Sherpa, spokesperson for the TIA and director of the Airport Operation Department, about the latest situation:
Here’s what the airport spokesperson said:
This morning (before 10 am), due to low visibility resulting from bad weather, flight operations came to a halt (at TIA) for half an hour.
In the morning (before 10 am), six domestic aircraft had to be diverted as they could not land at the domestic airport. But no flight got cancelled, they only got delayed. The diverted flights have also landed.
The airport is open now, flights have resumed, there’s no disturbance.
This is not because of inadequate infrastructure at the TIA, this is because of low visibility resulting from bad weather.
As for international flights, they also got delayed but no international flight was cancelled.
Responding to a query, the TIA spokesperson said: In the event of delays resulting from weather conditions and natural disasters, the airport does not have to bear any liability. In such cases, respective airlines have to make necessary arrangements for their passengers in keeping with international practices, their rules and policies.
A source at the Buddha Air said: Because of weather, flights have been disturbed from morning (6 am) to afternoon (as of 2 pm). There were delays, but no flight has been cancelled; some have been merged. There were delays but flights are operating now.
