In an effort to tackle rising air pollution in Kathmandu Valley, the Ministry of Forests and Environment has suggested a two-day weekly pubblic holiday.
During a meeting at the Ministry of Urban Development on Thursday, Acting Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh discussed possible solutions with experts and officials. Ministry Secretary Deepak Kharal proposed the longer weekend as a way to limit pollution from vehicles and businesses.
Experts also recommended an odd-even vehicle system to reduce traffic congestion until air quality improves. Additionally, they emphasized the need for pollution control fees on road and infrastructure projects to ensure better environmental practices.
The government is now reviewing these suggestions before making a decision.
