There is widespread opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump after he proposed capturing Gaza and relocating Palestinians elsewhere. Countries including Palestine, the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Egypt, the UK, France, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Turkey have criticized Trump's statements in response.
During a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was visiting the U.S., Trump expressed that the U.S. would take control of Gaza and destroy all dangerous bombs and weapons placed there. Netanyahu is the first foreign leader to visit the White House after Trump began his second term as president.
In the meeting, Trump proposed relocating the people of Gaza to other countries, regardless of whether they wanted to leave. However, this proposal was rejected by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The statement also urged the U.S. administration and President Trump to withdraw such irresponsible comments, as they violate international law and the fundamental rights of Palestinian citizens to live on their land, according to Reuters.
Similarly, Palestinians in Gaza have opposed Trump's sudden resettlement plan. A ceasefire was declared two weeks ago after 15 months of war. The conflict between Hamas and Israel began after Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
