According to BBC, Former U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed that the U.S. "take over" the Gaza Strip, clear the area, and rebuild it into a prosperous region.
Speaking at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump suggested relocating Palestinians to other countries, claiming they would have "homes and safety" elsewhere and claimed that the plan would bring "peace and harmony" to the region.
Trump described Gaza as "a hellhole" and hinted that U.S. will have a long time ownership of the land, promising job opportunities and large-scale economic development. He did not rule out sending American troops to Gaza if necessary.
The proposal was met with strong oppositions from the world leaders. The United Nations warned it could break international law, while leaders from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the UAE opposed forcing Palestinians to leave. European nations, including France, Germany, and Italy, also opposed the idea, supporting a two-state solution.
Palestinian leaders called the plan "a serious violation of international law," while Hamas denounced Trump’s remarks and urged an emergency response from the Arab League and the UN.
While Prime Minister Netanyahu praised Trump's new ideas, other Israeli leaders were more cautious with believing the proposal was bold, while others doubted if it could work or what it might lead to.
The White House defended Trump’s comments, calling them bold and fresh ideas. Officials said that the U.S. would not pay for Gaza’s reconstruction but would would collaborate with nearby countries. No specific actions have been outlined yet.
Trump’s proposal has sparked heated debate worldwide, with critics warning of seroius political and humanitarian consequences.
