Kash Patel, an Indian-origin official, has been appointed as the new Director of the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) in the United States. President Donald Trump selected him for the position.
After his appointment, Patel shared on social media platform X that he felt honored to become the ninth director of the FBI. However, his appointment faced opposition, with all Democratic senators and two Republican senators, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, voting against it, according to the BBC.
Patel previously worked with Trump during his first term. He started his career as a lawyer and has experience handling cases related to murder, drug crimes, and complex financial fraud.
He has also served as Chief of Staff to Acting U.S. Defense Secretary Christopher Miller.
