Efforts to bring together Energy Minister Kulman Ghising and Gen-Z leader Sudan Gurung under one political party are facing serious problems. Despite several rounds of meetings since Sunday, both sides still disagree on the party’s name and leadership.
Ghising wants to keep the name “Ujyalo Nepal” and appoint former secretary Anup Kumar Upadhyay as the leader. Gurung, however, wants the party to clearly represent the Gen-Z movement and its founding members.
Tuesday’s meeting ended without progress, and Gurung left midway after disagreements continued. Sources say Ghising has called for one final round of talks before party registration.
If they fail to reach an agreement, Ghising is expected to register Ujyalo Nepal on his own, while Gurung plans to form a separate party that may include Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and former lawmaker Sumana Shrestha.
