The government and representatives of the Gen Z movement are nearing a historic written agreement to recognize and implement the demands raised during the nationwide youth protests that reshaped Nepal’s political course. The deal, expected to be signed soon in the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel, will mark a formal resolution between the state and the movement.
According to officials, the agreement, modeled after the 2006 Comprehensive Peace Accord, will document Gen Z’s political and social agenda. Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s chief advisor, Ajay Bhadra Khanal, is leading talks with eight key Gen Z factions to finalize the draft.
Two rounds of meetings held at Sheetal Niwas earlier this month brought together senior ministers and Gen Z representatives, including injured protesters and families of martyrs. During the discussions, youth leaders pressed for a written accord to legitimize their struggle and counter claims that their movement was violent.
President Paudel and Prime Minister Karki both acknowledged the movement’s role in driving political change, with Karki assuring that her government would honour its spirit and sacrifices. Officials say the written pact will also help unify the roughly 25 groups now operating under the Gen Z banner, ensuring clarity and recognition for genuine participants.
