In the aftermath of the ceasefire deal facilitated by U.S. President Donald Trump, Gaza’s Nasser Hospital is struggling to manage the influx of bodies returned from Israel, BBC reports.

Over the past eleven days, Israeli authorities have handed over 195 Palestinian bodies in exchange for the remains of 13 Israeli hostages. Many of the bodies arrived in poor condition—some decomposed, others in civilian clothes or nearly naked, with visible injuries. Several had their wrists tied, some were blindfolded, and others had cloth wrapped around their necks.

The hospital’s forensic team, working from a single room without DNA testing or cold storage facilities, is facing extreme difficulties in identifying the deceased and investigating possible torture or mistreatment.

Officials warn that the crisis highlights the severe limitations of Gaza’s health system and the urgent need for proper forensic support.
