Two senior leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Chandrakala Bik, Provincial General Secretary of Karnali, and Jagat Basnet, Acting President of Surkhet, have left the party.

They have joined the Nepali Congress, where they were welcomed by Vice-Chairperson Bishwaprakash Sharma.

The leaders accused RSP of being involved in corruption, claiming they left the party because it strayed from its original slogan of ending corruption and promoting good governance. Bik, one of the founding general secretaries, said she joined Congress to promote anti-corruption measures and good governance after observing that RSP had become internally opaque.

“Undemocratic activities have increased in the party despite slogans of selecting the knowledgeable,” she said. “Financial opacity within sub-parties has intensified.”

She also alleged that for proportional representation candidates, Rs 50,000, and for direct candidates, Rs 25,000 were collected without proper accounting, and that top-ranked candidates were sidelined under the pretext of primary elections.

The leaders urged timely awareness as RSP has failed to advance political stability, democratic values, and the development agenda of the country.
