Rabi Lamichhane, the chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), was arrested on Friday night following an order from the High Court. He was flown to Rupandehi this morning in connection with the Supreme Cooperative fraud case in Butwal.
SP Ranjit Singh Rathore confirmed that Lamichhane was taken to Rupandehi on the first Yeti Airlines flight today.
He will be held at the District Police Office in Rupandehi for two days because of the weekend public holidays, which will delay further proceedings until Monday.
On Friday, the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur high court ordered Lamichhane to be taken into custody, overturning an earlier decision from the district court that had granted him bail. He had previously posted bail of Rs 10 million.
Lamichhane was arrested at his residence in Hepali Heights, Budhanilkantha, and kept overnight at the District Police Complex in Bhadrakali before being flown to Rupandehi. This is the second time he has been arrested in connection with this case.
