Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said on Saturday that he and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, have reached a ‘deep understanding’ on resolving ‘minor irritants’ that may crop up in neighborly relations every now and then.
PM Oli, talking to journalists upon his return from Bangkok upon completion of his five-day visit, said they have forged a common stand on further expanding Nepal-India relations, making them stronger and more comprehensive.
PM described his meeting with Indian PM Modi on the sidelines of the sixth BIMSTEC summit as ‘very meaningful’ and expressed happiness over the one-on-one engagement turned out.
I have found that PM Modi is also happy with the way this meeting turned out, PM Oli said.
”Minor issues can crop up between neighbors. This time, we reached a ‘deep understanding’ to discuss such issues promptly and resolve them.”
He said the discussions with the Indian counterpart covered areas of mutual interest such as trade and investment, the multipurpose Pancheshwor Project and providing irrigation facilities in Dodhara Chandni using waters from the Mahakali river.
PM Oli said while Modiji won’t be able to attend the Sagarmatha Sambaad (slated for May 16-18 this year) because of his pre-scheduled visit to Europe, there will be high-level representation from India at the summit.
