Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that his recent official visit to Thailand and participation in the sixth BIMSTEC Summit was very successful and meaningful.
Speaking to the media at Tribhuvan International Airport after his return, PM Oli said the visit helped strengthen Nepal’s ties with Thailand and opened new opportunities for cooperation. He met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and discussed working together in areas like trade, tourism, agriculture, education and technology. Both countries also agreed to boost cultural and economic exchanges, with a special focus on their shared Buddhist heritage.
Thailand also expressed support for Nepal’s national goal of "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali," and showed interest in helping Nepal in tourism, agriculture, IT and infrastructure development. The two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote culture and tourism.
PM Oli added that both the countries agreed to work together in regional and global issues such as climate change, world peace and sustainable development. He invited the Thai Prime Minister to visit Nepal soon.
During the summit, PM Oli spoke about major regional and global challenges like inequality, economic risks and political instability. He stressed that strong regional cooperation is key to solving these problems. He also invited BIMSTEC leaders to Nepal for the first-ever Sagarmatha Sambaad, a high-level dialogue on climate change and other major issues.
PM Oli had left for Thailand on April 1 at the invitation of the Thai PM to attend the summit and to engage in talks aimed at boosting the friendly relations between the two countries.
