Gagan Thapa, general secretary of the Nepali Congress, has said that Nepal’s monarchy is unlike the United Kingdom as it does not want to stay within constitutional bounds.
The institution is currently creating havoc from Nirmal Niwas, he said referring to the king’s current stay in the Maharajgunj-based residence: What all would it have done if it were still in the Narayanhity Palace?
He said his party was hounded the most by the king, adding: The party has been trying to confine the king within constitutional limits, to little avail..
Thapa said the Congress chose people’s rule as the monarchy did not have a constitutional character.
