School activities in Sunsari have been affected as cold weather continues to worsen across the district. To protect students from health risks caused by the cold, all local governments in Sunsari have announced school holidays for both community and private schools from December 31 to January 2, 2026.

Itahari Sub-metropolitan City said the holidays will be adjusted from the five-month leave allocated to schools. Ramesh Kumar Shah, head of the Education Branch, explained that the decision was taken mainly to safeguard children’s health during the cold spell.

Other local governments in the district, including Inaruwa, Duhabi, Koshi Rural Municipality, Harinagararamdhuni, and nearby areas, have also decided to close schools by deducting the days from their annual leave. Local authorities have advised parents to keep children warm at home and take extra care as temperatures continue to fall.
