Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that the government will reconsider the national health insurance policy, citing increasing misuse under the current system.

Speaking at the 43rd anniversary celebration of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Prime Minister Oli stated that the health insurance program would be reviewed to ensure its relevance and effectiveness. He emphasized the need for reforms that justify the program's purpose and prevent its misuse.

PM Oli also urged the Teaching Hospital to contribute further to the Nirogi Nepal (Healthy Nepal) campaign by providing accurate treatment and advancing healthcare services. Highlighting the hospital’s achievements in producing skilled health professionals and delivering quality medical services, he stressed that the institution should continue to excel in serving the Nepali people.

Reflecting on his personal experience, PM Oli mentioned undergoing his second kidney transplant at the same hospital, underscoring the capability of Nepal’s healthcare system. “People place their trust and hope in doctors, nurses, and hospitals when they are ill. Once at the hospital, patients believe they will survive — it is your duty to fulfill that trust,” he said.

He praised the role of nurses in patient recovery, noting that along with medicine, a nurse’s kind words and caring behavior contribute significantly to healing. “It’s the nurses who ensure patients get the right medicine, in the right amount, at the right time, as per doctors' instructions,” he added.

During the event, PM Oli also honored outstanding staff members and presented a token of appreciation to Min Bahadur Gurung, Managing Director of Bhatbhateni Supermarket, for his contribution to the hospital’s new service building. The new facility was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Oli as part of the hospital’s anniversary celebration.
