A leaked audio recording has triggered a political storm, dragging Minister for Land Management, Balaram Adhikari, into a bribery controversy, one he strongly denies.

The recording features a conversation between Federal Affairs Minister Raj Kumar Gupta and a middleman, where Gupta claims Adhikari had already received payment related to appointments in Kaski’s Land Commission and the Land Revenue Office.

Responding in the House of Representatives on Monday, Adhikari said he had no involvement and was unfairly mentioned in a private conversation he knew nothing about. “I had no role in this deal,” he stated, adding that such appointments don’t even fall under his ministry.

He emphasized, “Just taking someone’s name doesn’t prove guilt. If there’s real evidence against me, I’m ready for legal action.”

Alongside clearing his name, Adhikari urged lawmakers to focus on passing a land-related bill still awaiting approval. Meanwhile, pressure is mounting in Parliament, with increasing calls for both ministers to resign.
