NEPSE Drops Sharply by 35 Points, Reversing Previous Day’s Gains

On Monday, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) fell sharply by 35.09 points, closing at 2,725.71. This drop came just a day after a 29-point rise, which had followed the announcement of the monetary policy for 2025/26.

The market opened at 2,760.80 points and even rose slightly to reach 2,765.91 in the first 20 minutes. However, it started falling soon after and dropped to the day’s lowest point of 2,724.84 just before closing.

Out of all sectors, only the hydropower sector gained, adding 5.32 points. The rest of the 12 sectors saw losses, with the life insurance and non-life insurance sectors falling the most—by 181.53 points and 132.32 points, respectively.

The sensitive index, which tracks top-tier companies, also fell by 6.83 points. The total trading amount dropped significantly to Rs 8.17 billion, down from Rs 11.41 billion on Sunday.

Looking at individual stocks, only 50 companies gained while 198 lost value. The highest trading was seen in NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited, with shares worth Rs 408.85 million changing hands.

Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited had the biggest drop of the day, falling by 4.46 percent. On the other hand, Mai Khola Hydropower Limited saw the highest gain, rising by 5.90 percent.
