The meeting of the House of Representatives, which was scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed once again. The session was supposed to begin at 1 PM, but after several delays, it finally started at 6:30 PM, only to be stopped within minutes due to protests by the opposition.

The opposition alliance, including the CPN (Maoist Centre), is demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. They are protesting his alleged involvement in a controversial visit visa scandal, and have made it clear that they won’t let Parliament function until he steps down.

Because of this deadlock, Sunday’s meeting couldn’t move forward with any agenda. Speaker Devraj Ghimire had no choice but to postpone it again — this time until 2 PM on Monday.

Earlier in the day, there were some signs of progress. Leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties sat down for talks. Key figures from the Nepali Congress, like Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, General Secretary Gagan Thapa, and MP Gyanendra Bahadur Karki met with representatives from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, including Vice Chair Dr. Swarnim Wagle, MPs Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, and Santosh Pariyar. Unified Socialist MP Rajendra Pandey also joined the discussions.

Despite the efforts, the talks didn’t lead to any agreement. The ruling coalition is still standing firmly behind the Home Minister, while the opposition refuses to back down. As a result, the Parliament remains in a state of political gridlock, with no clear resolution in sight.
