The NEA has stopped electricity supply to 25 large industries that failed to clear dues totaling Rs 5.48 billion, leading to shutdowns and growing concerns over job losses. These industries, which used around 250 megawatts of power daily, have now suspended operations.

According to NEA officials, the decision was made after repeated payment deadlines were ignored. Former NEA Executive Director Mukesh Kafle noted that the move has caused heavy revenue loss and affected over 40,000 workers.

Industrialists argue the action was premature, as the dispute is still under review, and say the shutdown is also costing the government tax revenue. The dues date back to 2016–2018, linked to premium charges for using dedicated power lines during load-shedding.
