A joint legal push is being made today by Nepali Congress and CPN-UML at the Supreme Court, with signatures of 141 former lawmakers demanding the restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives.
The two largest parties in the former House are approaching the Supreme court together, claiming majority support among ex-MPs and seeking judicial intervention to reinstate Parliament. The move comes as the Sushila Karki–led government intensifies preparations for House elections slated for March 5, 2026, following the Gen-Z movement.
Earlier, UML had filed a petition as a party, while several Congress lawmakers had submitted individual writs. Now, 66 of the 88 former Congress MPs have joined the joint application, though a number of senior party leaders are absent from the signatories.
Party sources say recent talks between Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli paved the way for this coordinated court move, aimed at strengthening the case for House restoration amid continuing political uncertainty.
