Central Committee member of the Nepali Congress, Dr Shekhar Koirala, said that his party is preparing for the election to the House of Representatives (HoR).

Speaking at a discussion program titled “NC’s Journey: Past, Present and Future” organized on Sunday, Dr Koirala talked about the challenges and opportunities facing the Nepali Congress. He said the party’s Central Committee has already decided to take part in the election.

However, he stressed that peace and security are necessary for free and fair elections. He said that weapons stolen from police offices and prisoners who escaped from jails during the September 8–9 Gen Z movement must be returned. He added that the country has no other option but to successfully hold the election on the scheduled date.

Dr Koirala said that if youths from political parties are given 40 percent participation at the local level, 30 percent at the provincial level, and 20 percent at the federal level, it would help reduce corruption and improve transparency and accountability. He also said that teachers working in community schools should stay away from political activities.

In another issue, he accused the government of discriminating against Biratnagar Metropolitan City in the distribution of resources, which he said has made the city fall behind compared to others.
