On July 8, a massive flood in the Lhende River near the Nepal-China border in Rasuwa district caused heavy damage to several vehicles, including newly imported electric vehicles (EVs). The vehicles were parked at the Timure customs yard, waiting for customs clearance, when the sudden flood struck the area.

Most of the vehicles were electric cars brought from China. Many of them were washed away by the flood, while others were left covered in thick mud and debris. Rescue teams and security personnel have managed to recover at least eight EVs so far, but many more remain missing or severely damaged.

This incident has raised serious concern among automobile importers. The NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal said the flood has delivered a major blow to Nepal’s automobile import system. It has especially disrupted the growing supply chain of EVs from China, affecting businesses and future imports.
