The US Department of Defense has confirmed that its military base in Qatar suffered minor damage after an Iranian missile attack.
On June 23, Iran launched airstrikes targeting American bases in the Middle East. One of the missiles struck the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
According to Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell, the joint air defense system of the US and Qatar successfully intercepted most of the missiles. However, one ballistic missile did hit the base, causing minor damage to equipment and infrastructure. No injuries were reported.
Parnell stated, “Al Udeid Air Base is still fully operational, and our mission to maintain regional security and stability with Qatar continues without disruption.”
A satellite image analysis by BBC Persian’s fact-checking team shows that the "antenna core" inside the base was completely destroyed and nearby buildings were also damaged.
The missile attack followed the US joining the ongoing war between Israel and Iran. Earlier, the US had struck key Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, which it claimed were heavily damaged.
Iran’s response came shortly before the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel came to an end.
