Starting Friday, the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has introduced a new code of conduct for its staff. The goal is to improve how immigration services are delivered and make the experience better for travelers.
Chief Immigration Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala said the new rules follow international standards. Staff are expected to follow national laws, respect local culture, and behave in a professional, fair, and responsible way. The aim is to make services smooth, clear, honest, and focused on results.
According to the new guidelines, officers should politely say “Have a nice journey” to those leaving Nepal and “Welcome to Nepal” to visitors arriving in the country. Staff are encouraged to ask only necessary questions, speak respectfully, and maintain a friendly tone—especially toward workers traveling to Gulf countries.
Officials have also been told that their behavior represents the image of the country. Friendly and respectful service is especially important for making a good impression on tourists.
To help monitor how well the new code is being followed, TIA has set up 15 service counters where travelers can give feedback about their experience.
