The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning about rising flood risks in several hilly districts, as monsoon winds continue to affect the country.
According to the latest update, the monsoon low-pressure line is positioned near the average temperature in the eastern region and slightly northward in the west. This has resulted in generally cloudy conditions over Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, while the rest of the country remains partly cloudy. Light rain has been recorded in a few places of Lumbini and Karnali provinces.
As of Saturday morning, major rivers like the Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali, Kamala, Bagmati, and Rapti (East and West) are flowing below danger levels. However, several small rivers are forecasted to swell significantly, particularly in the districts of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, and Makawanpur.
There is also a moderate risk of flash floods in rivers flowing through districts such as Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Kaski, Syangja, Gulmi, Pyuthan, Baitadi, and Bajhang.
The situation may worsen tomorrow as rainfall could cause a sudden rise in river levels across parts of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Authorities have urged residents and travelers in vulnerable areas to stay alert, avoid riverbanks, and follow weather updates.
