Nepal made a strong start in the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship by defeating Bhutan 6–1 in their first match. The game was held yesterday at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in Bangladesh.
Purnima Rai scored a hat-trick for Nepal, while Senu Pariyar added two more goals. With this win, Nepal has earned 3 points in the tournament.
Senu gave Nepal an early lead by scoring in the 9th minute. Purnima doubled the lead in the 18th minute. Just before halftime, in the 45th minute, Senu scored again, making it 3–0 for Nepal at the break.
In the 54th minute, Bhutan’s Kelden Wangmo scored a consolation goal. But Nepal quickly responded — Purnima scored in the 63rd minute, completing her hat-trick in the 84th minute, and adding a fourth goal in the 88th minute to finish the game 6–1.
Earlier that day, in the tournament’s opening match, host country Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka with a huge score of 9–0.
Nepal will now play against Bangladesh in their next match tomorrow.
