Despite being defeated in the House of Representatives election 2022 under Sarlahi Constituency No. 4, Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has committed to remaining connected with the voters and development issues of the constituency.
Thapa, who had come to Sarlahi for the general election held on Falgun 21 (March 6), had returned to Kathmandu after receiving indications of defeat.
Arriving in Sarlahi for the first time since then on Wednesday, Thapa addressed a voter thanksgiving and "Roots Campaign" program organized in Dhankaul of Sarlahi-4. He mentioned that many leaders, workers, and well-wishers became emotional after his defeat. He expressed gratitude to all voters and party members who supported him with goodwill and cooperation.
"When I lost, many friends cried. I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the leaders, workers, and voters who showed me goodwill and support," he said. "Your love and trust means that I have not wavered even a bit by the defeat. I will always stand with you for the development of Sarlahi-4 and for a future victory."
President Thapa informed that his team has already begun studies and planning for improvements in the areas of education, health, agriculture, and irrigation, in line with the commitments he made before the election.
"Even before the election, my team had started studying and researching the development of education, health, agriculture, and irrigation sectors," he said. "Now, based on those findings, work will proceed in a planned manner for the development of these sectors."
He stated that although he was not elected to the House of Representatives, he will remain continuously active as a representative of the people of Sarlahi-4.
"Even though I will not be in Parliament as your representative for the next five years, respecting the trust that nearly 23,000 voters placed in me, I will work my best as a representative of this constituency," he said. "I will learn your language and go from village to village to speak with the voters."
Thapa said that even though he has a nationwide responsibility as the president of the main opposition party, he will pay special attention to the constituency where he was a candidate.
