A bulldozer has been deployed at the squatter settlement in Thapathali. The government mobilized the bulldozer on Saturday morning to remove the unauthorized squatter settlements located on public and government land along the banks of the Bagmati River.
Currently, two bulldozers are being used, and the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Metropolitan Police are coordinating to safely evacuate the people residing in the settlement.
Security has been tightened in the area. Since early morning, a heavy presence of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Metropolitan Police has been deployed in the Thapathali area. Security personnel presence has been significantly increased, keeping in mind possible tensions along with the preparations to clear the settlement.
A tense situation has arisen among the locals following the government's preparation to remove the squatter settlements in the area starting today.
Previously, the concerned authorities had warned of legal action if the settlement was not vacated. However, locals have expressed dissatisfaction, stating that the government is trying to forcefully remove them without completing the necessary procedures to resolve the squatter problem.
