The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index closed slightly lower on Wednesday. The market, which had been declining for the past two trading days, continued the same trend on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the NEPSE index dropped by 2.95 points to close at 2804.17 points. Although the NEPSE fell, the Sensitive Index rose by 0.65 points and the Sensitive Float Index increased by 0.32 points, while the Float Index remained stable.
Despite a slight decline in the index, there was a significant improvement in transaction volume. While shares worth Rs 5.77 billion were traded on Tuesday, on Wednesday, shares of 342 companies totaling 17.588 million shares were bought and sold for Rs 7.813947 billion. A total of 121,433 transactions took place on this day.
Even though the market fell today, three companies saw positive circuit in their share prices. The share prices of Palpa Cement Industries, Suryakunda Hydroelectric, and Shikhar Power Development increased by 10 percent, hitting the positive circuit. Similarly, the share price of Jhapa Energy rose by 14 percent and Ganapati Laghubitta increased by 9 percent.
Meanwhile, the share price of Hotel Forest Inn fell by 10.75 percent, making it the top loser of the day.
In terms of transaction value, National Hydropower Company ranked first. Shares worth Rs 41.34 million were traded of this company. Similarly, Reliance Spinning Mills saw transactions of over Rs 32.5 million, and Solu Hydropower had over Rs 31.5 million worth of shares traded.
Among the 13 subgroups that traded today, 5 indices rose while 8 fell. Banking, Finance, Investment, Manufacturing & Processing, and Non-life Insurance subgroups saw slight increases. The Hotel & Tourism subgroup fell the most by 2.36 percent, while the Trading subgroup declined by more than 1 percent.
