Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Khushbu Oli has said that Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal held discussions with the chief whips of various parties over the issue of diplomatic passports.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Oli informed that many House members have been demanding diplomatic passports, and the Speaker called the discussions to find a way forward.

She noted that according to the Passport Act 2076 and its regulations, Clause 6 states that only designated officials traveling for special government programs or assignments are entitled to diplomatic passports.

However, she added that many lawmakers need to travel abroad for various programs, and the current legal provisions make it difficult to provide them with diplomatic passports smoothly.

Oli said the Speaker has now sought suggestions from whips and chief whips on how to facilitate lawmakers in the coming days.
