Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Gyanendra Shahi has said that differing opinions within a party must be respected and accommodated.

Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu on Monday to honor House of Representatives members from the RPP, he warned that failing to respect dissenting views within the party could lead to authoritarian tendencies.

He said, “We must be able to move forward by respecting those who hold different views within the party. If we fail to do so, authoritarian tendencies may develop even within us. It is a learning process, and if we don’t learn now, it could create difficulties in the future. Therefore, the RPP should respect differing opinions.”

He also claimed that while many corruption cases are emerging, no questions have been raised against the leadership of the RPP.

“Many corruption files are coming out these days, but no questions have been raised about the leadership of the RPP so far. That is because we move forward with honesty, and no one should object to that,” he said.

Shahi further stated that public dissatisfaction is more with individual candidates rather than political parties, citing the example of young leaders from the CPN-UML winning elections.

“It is not dissatisfaction with the party, but with the candidates. If the party itself was ineffective, how would UML’s young leaders win? They have won. If we have made mistakes, we should self-reflect. At present, if any party has the strongest political agenda, it is the RPP,” he added.

He also said that the party would support the government’s positive steps while opposing actions that go against public interest.
