A habeas corpus petition filed against K. P. Sharma Oli, Chairman of CPN-UML and former Prime Minister, and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak is scheduled for hearing today.
The hearing will proceed after the defendants submitted their written responses following the show-cause order previously issued by the Supreme Court. Oli and Lekhak were arrested on Chaitra 14 on charges of carrying out excessive repression during the Gen Z movement.
Oli’s wife Radhika Shakya and Lekhak’s wife Yashoda Lekhak had filed the habeas corpus petitions, claiming that the government had unlawfully detained them and demanding their release.
Following separate hearings on both petitions, the court had issued show-cause orders in the name of the defendant government.
