A delegation led by Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) President Dr. Hemraj Sharma met Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal at the ministry, congratulating him and urging facilitation on issues faced by Nepalis abroad.

During the meeting, Dr. Sharma highlighted the significant contribution of the Nepali diaspora in national development and stressed the need to ensure their rights and services. He called for the full implementation of Non-Resident Nepali citizenship and effective execution of rights related to immigration, property, banking, and voting. He also urged the government to strengthen embassy services, expand diplomatic missions, and establish a legal support system for Nepalis facing difficulties abroad.

NRNA founding president Dr. Upendra Mahato emphasized that achieving a prosperous Nepal requires investment, skills, and technology, noting that the diaspora can play a crucial role in this effort. He also called for uniting Nepalis across 90 countries in the nation’s development campaign.

Minister Khanal appreciated the contribution of Nepalis abroad and stressed the need for policy reforms, investment expansion, and stronger institutional collaboration. He acknowledged legal complexities in citizenship issues and said further study and amendments may be required. He also noted ongoing humanitarian efforts to address issues faced by Nepalis in Portugal.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the coming days. On the occasion, NRNA Europe invited Minister Khanal as the chief guest for its 17th Europe Regional Conference to be held on June 22–23, 2026, in Dublin, Ireland.
