Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has expressed dissatisfaction over the interpretation of former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s arrest as an act of revenge and haste.
Speaking to journalists on Friday after RSP Vice President DP Aryal filed his nomination for the post of Speaker, Lamichhane said that calling the arrest retaliatory and rushed was inappropriate, adding that the real urgency for justice lies with the families of martyrs.
He said, “It is too quick to label the arrest of a Home Minister as revenge. The urgency for justice should belong to the parents who have lost their young children. Who could be in more haste than them? Therefore, the first right to justice belongs to the families of martyrs and the injured. Everyone has the right to justice, but the first priority should be the martyrs’ families.”
He also stated that his party is under public scrutiny and that citizens are closely observing their actions. “We are under public audit. Citizens are watching us. Rather than just speaking, we will prove ourselves through our work,” he said.
Lamichhane emphasized that the newly elected Speaker must uphold parliamentary dignity, rules, and discipline by putting experience into practice.
He further added that once elected, the Speaker must rise above party interests and remain accountable to the entire House, stressing that any attempt to suppress the opposition or ignore public issues would be unacceptable in a democratic system.
