The Cabinet meeting held on Sunday has decided to grant public holidays on Saturdays and Sundays.

Government spokesperson Sasmita Pokharel informed that, to ease disruptions in petroleum supply, all government offices and educational institutions will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays starting from Chaitra 23, 2082. Office hours for government offices (except educational institutions) will be maintained from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

She stated, “Due to difficulties in petroleum supply, the decision has been made to implement a two-day weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for government offices and all educational institutions from Chaitra 23, 2082, while office hours for other government offices will be fixed from 9 AM to 5 PM.”

Cabinet decisions include:

  1. Accepting concessional loans worth 90 million USD (40 million from the Asian Development Bank and 50 million from the World Bank) for the Digital Nepal Transformation Project.
  2. Accepting a concessional loan of 95 million USD from the World Bank for the Sustainable and Inclusive Finance Project.
  3. Granting prior approval to preserve the organizational structure and management of all ministries, secretariats, commissions, and subordinate bodies of the Government of Nepal.
  4. Approving the resignation of RSS Executive Chairman Dhamendra Jha.
  5. Implementing a two-day weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for government offices and educational institutions from Chaitra 23, 2082, with office hours (except educational institutions) set from 9 AM to 5 PM.
  6. Making necessary legal arrangements to convert diesel and petrol vehicles into electric vehicles.
  7. Starting the new academic session from Baisakh 15, 2083.
