Hamas has set a condition for Israel in the Gaza ceasefire deal, demanding the release of Palestinian prisoners before moving forward with the next phase of negotiations.

According to the BBC, a top Hamas leader said that Israel's refusal to free these prisoners is putting the entire agreement at risk. He also urged mediators, especially the U.S., to pressure Israel to comply.

The first phase of the deal, which includes a six-week temporary ceasefire, is set to end this Saturday. However, talks for the next phase and a permanent end to the war have not yet begun. Despite Hamas releasing Israeli hostages, Israel has not freed over 600 Palestinian prisoners as agreed.
