Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has inaugurated a free internet service at the New Bus Park in Gongabu, Kathmandu.
Speaking at the event, Minister Kharel said the initiative fulfills his earlier commitment to provide free Wi-Fi at public spaces. So far, free internet access has been established at 19 locations across the Kathmandu Valley.
He added that the government plans to extend the service beyond the Valley, prioritizing digital access in remote regions. “We are working to expand internet connectivity in rural areas as well,” he said, noting that Darchula, Bajhang, Jajarkot, and Tilicho Base Camp in Manang already have internet services. Improving connectivity in Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Rautahat, Myagdi, and Baitadi remains a key focus, he added.
Secretary Radhika Aryal and Nepal Telecommunications Authority Chair Bhupendra Bhandari were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
