The Supreme Court has declined to issue an interim order against the appointment of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as Prime Minister, following her recommendation by the Gen-Z group.
A constitutional bench led by Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh has asked for clarification on the appointment process and its legal basis, while deciding to continue hearings to examine the key issues in detail.
The petition, filed by advocate Dr. Punya Prasad Khatri on Sunday, claimed that President Ramchandra Paudel’s appointment of Karki violated the Constitution. Khatri argued that the current Constitution clearly bars a former Chief Justice from becoming Prime Minister and cited an alleged breach of Articles 76 (132) (2) and 80.
