Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari of the Election Commission has reminded that the official campaign period for elections will run from Falgun 4 to 18. Speaking at a press conference at the Commission on Tuesday, he urged adherence to the election code of conduct.
“We have set the election campaigning period from Falgun 4 to 18. After submitting nomination papers, some may think they have to remain silent until then, but that is not the case,” he said.
He explained that once candidates receive their election symbols, they can meet voters at their homes and seek opinions. “However, candidates are not allowed to hold large rallies, workshops, seminars, or similar events as part of party activities,” he added. “The code of conduct is in effect. We had called on candidates to follow it while submitting their nomination papers. Any complaints regarding violations will be investigated and decided upon within the Commission’s jurisdiction.”
He also stated that elections for vacant seats in the provincial assemblies and local bodies, whose representatives have become candidates for the House of Representatives, will be held after Falgun 21.
