According to the US Southern Command, the US military on Tuesday morning took control of a seventh oil tanker linked to Venezuela in the Caribbean region. In a statement issued via X (formerly Twitter), the command said the motor vessel Sagitta was taken under control without resistance with the support of the Department of Homeland Security.

The command claimed that the tanker had been operating in the Caribbean in defiance of a quarantine established by President Trump for sanctioned vessels. Earlier this month, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that the United States would not only prevent the marketing of oil stored in Venezuela but would also impose indefinite control over the sale of Venezuelan oil production.

A few days after the first oil tanker was seized in mid-December, President Trump ordered a complete blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela.
