Traffic will be temporarily halted along the Daunne stretch of the Narayangadh-Butwal road for expansion work.
This decision was made after a meeting with stakeholders from both Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta East and West.
It was agreed to close the Daunne stretch from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm from April 9 to April 13, and from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am from April 14 to April 28, as informed by Ghanashyam Giri, Chairman of Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality.
Giri said that the closure is necessary to speed up construction work along the section, which has been facing serious problems like bumpy roads, narrow curves, dusty conditions, and slow rebuilding of demolished structures. These issues have caused daily trouble for travellers.
A joint meeting, including the District Coordination Chiefs of Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta East and West, the Chief District Officer, mayors of Bardaghat municipality and Binayi Triveni rural municipality, project planning chiefs, consultants, construction entrepreneurs and officials of security agencies decided to expedite the construction.
Currently, the work in the area includes cutting through hills, building walls, and installing culverts. This section is especially risky, which is why it’s being widened to three lanes.
Engineer Shiva Khanal shared that Daunne is part of the 114-kilometer Narayangadh-Butwal road project, which also includes service lanes in market areas. The Daunne stretch alone is 14 kilometers long and is getting special attention due to its condition.
The entire project costs Rs 17 billion, and even though work is ongoing, delays have pushed the deadline multiple times. The current deadline is now set for mid-August.
